For the next episode of our video podcast, Matt Stephens invited Yorkshire native Connor Swift, an English road racing cyclist who currently rides for UCI ProTeam Arkéa–Samsic, to chat about his goals and ambitions going ahead.
Swift, the British National Road Race Champion of 2018 and the overall winner of Tro-Bro Léon of 2021, has risen up from the British continental scene but found his first top-level contract at Arkéa Samsic, where he became the main domestique for Nairo Quintana. After being an integral part of the French team, however, Swift seems to be on the path to the first division of road cycling, as he has been approached by Ineos Grenadiers who recently refocused on young British talent. He is supposed to sign with the team, where his cousin Ben Swift also rides, from 2023 onwards.
Matthew was naturally curious, then, about how the young rider feels about the future laid ahead of him, also taking into account that the 2022 UCI Road World Championships in Wollongong are just a few weeks away. How do the stages he has ridden so far inform his racing style and preparation now? How important are biscuits in hotel rooms for British riders? And what is the ultimate “toothpaste strategy”?
