As expected, the team will be led by Primož Roglič and Jonas Vingegaard in the GC fight. Wout van Aert will aim to wear the Škoda Green Jersey on the Champs-Élysées. They will be supported by Sepp Kuss, Steven Kruijswijk, Christophe Laporte, Tiesj Benoot, and Nathan Van Hooydonck.
“We have several ambitions so we have chosen riders who are the best at different terrains”, Merijn Zeeman, the sportive director, explains. “We have to guide our leaders safely through the first hectic week but also be able to make it difficult for the other Tour favourites in the mountains”, says Team Jumbo-Visma’s sportive director. “Wout also deserves sufficient support in his hunt for stage victories and the Green Jersey. This squad is fit and, in our view, capable of pursuing our ambitions in the best way possible.”
One notable absence from the list is Rohan Dennis. He didn’t make the cut after contracting an illness during the Tour de Suisse last week. The whole team left the race after a Covid outbreak. Sepp Kuss is the one who most likely replaced him and will join Kruijswijk in the mountains to help the GC leaders.
Benoot and Laporte will focus on helping van Aert win the stages and intermediate sprints. They worked very well together during the spring classics campaign.
Primož Roglič won the Critérium du Dauphiné a few weeks ago and Jonas Vingegaard came second. Wout van Aert won the green jersey there. Will Jumbo-Visma repeat this domination at the Tour? We shall soon see.
