The Welshman hits form
The 36-year-old Tour winner claimed the overall victory at the Tour de Suisse with a stunning time-trial performance. Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) finished only three seconds behind Remco Evenepoel, the stage winner. He was over a minute quicker than Sergio Higuita (Bora-Hansgrohe) and thus overtook him in the general classification.
It was the ninth stage race victory for Thomas who seems to be getting in great shape ahead of the Tour.
“Don’t think many were expecting that,” the Welshman wrote on Twitter. “Delighted to finally win [the] Tour de Suisse. Big thanks to the boys and the team for all of their work this week.”
Sergio Higuita managed to hold the second place in the overall standings and Jakob Fuglsang (Israel-Premier Tech) finished third.
