Today marks exactly 100 days before the 109th edition of the world-famous Tour de France starts. The 2022 Tour launch in Denmark was more than 25 years in the making as many convoluted historical events and logistic problems kept popping up, preventing it from happening. So, when it finally did, a little celebration was in order. The success of our little Copenhagen feat in collaboration with Škoda rested on the most bulletproof human trait of all – curiosity. A big red button in the middle of a quiet square? There was no way someone wouldn’t give in to temptation.
All brave enough to give it a push were surprised by none other than Andy Schleck. The former pro cyclist from Luxembourg, 2010 Tour de France winner and three Tour stage wins holder invited each bold passer-by into the Tour de France Director’s Car, a specially modified Škoda ENYAQ iV boasting the distinct Velvet Red paint job, decals, and accessories. A very special guest invited to take a ride with Andy was also Alex Pedersen – a former professional cyclist and one of the most prominent figures lobbying to get the Tour de France’s Grand Départ to the Danish capital.
Andy’s passengers were not just treated to a sightseeing tour of Copenhagen – most importantly, he wanted to know how well versed the Danish public is in all things Tour, considering the nation’s enthusiasm for two wheels. He quizzed his guests on tricky multiple-choice questions, which produced more than one nervous laugh and a lot of smiles as cool prizes were involved for correct answers. The two most knowledgeable contestants, Laura and Pierre, were rewarded with the Škoda ENYAQ iV for a full weekend.
So, would you push the button? How many questions did you get right? Tell us in the comments!
