Pfeiffer Georgi does it
The 21-year-old won the elite women’s road race at the British National Championships. She also claimed the victory in the Under-23 category contained within the race. Georgi attacked on the final ascent of the cobbled Michaelgate climb in Lincoln and took the victory by several seconds.
“I did this race once before and the key is positioning into this climb because it’s so narrow and things can go on any lap,” Georgi said at the finish.
“We saw that today when it split on the first lap. I didn’t believe that I could win from a sprint so with two laps to go I attacked and I saw that I had a gap so I started to believe that if it all stayed together I would have a chance.”

Ben Swift wins over Fred Wright
The Ineos Grenadiers rider successfully defended his British national title after a tough sprint on the Michaelgate climb leaving Fred Wright (Bahrain Victorious) behind him. Ben Swift was very active throughout the race, forcing a split on the third ascent of Michaelgate. And this breakaway, although in a slightly different constitution, made its way to the finish.
“I’m over the moon,” Swift said at the finish. “I’ve become used to wearing this jersey. Unfortunately we didn’t get to race last year so I got another year for free and hopefully today I justified that extra year.
“It was an incredible day. I think my form, I’ve had a bit of an up-and-down year. I’ve had some real highlights – I had my second child, Harry, but in terms of personal results it just didn’t go that well at the start of the year. It started to come together now and to finish it off like this. I’m really happy.”
Fred Wright who finished second claimed the first place in the U23 category. A late attack by Ethan Hayter secured him the bronze.
