A somewhat heated debate preceded the acceptance of the proposal. Some of the deputies based their arguments on their own experience of sharing the road.
“Our club is divided in opinions,” admitted the former Minister of Justice Helena Válková of the governmental party ANO. “However, it works in other countries and the cyclists deserve us to be considerate.”
“It is an easy, predictable method, tried and tested in other countries,” said Ondřej Profant, a deputy for the Czech Pirate Party.
The law will only come into effect after the Senate’s approval and the president’s signing. However, no obstructions from their side are expected. Let’s hope the law will make roads safer for everyone.
