Primož Roglič Wins Tour of the Basque Country and Other Cool News from the World of Cycling

By Monica Buck

Another Monday is here, and so is our news from the world of cycling. So, what did you miss?

The Slovenian wins again

Primož Roglič took the overall win as Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates) was quickly dropped on the final day. Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) initially tried to help the American back into the front group but to no avail. Roglič surged ahead with Hugh Carthy (EF – Nippo) and David Gaudu (Groupama – FDJ). The Brit cracked on the final climb and the Slovenian then handed the stage to the Frenchman in turn for his help. The two shared a fist bump inside the final kilometre and both celebrated as they crossed the finish line. Jonas Vingegaard climbed to second place overall making it 1-2 for Jumbo-Visma. Pogačar finished third overall, in the end having finished just over a minute behind Gaudu.

“It actually just happened. It was just a super hard race and, yeah, when there is some opportunity and if I have the legs, I always want to race so I decided to go,” Roglič explained. “I had a couple of pieces of bad luck in the last stages. But today was just beautiful. Everything went right and I had fun the whole stage today.”
