Alaphilippe wins stage 2
Julian Alaphilippe took the yellow jersey yesterday after beating Marc Hirschi (Team Sunweb) in a two-up sprint. Alaphilippe wore yellow for 14 stages in last year’s Tour and won the hearts of people all over the world. Can he do it again? The Frenchman himself said that he would not target yellow this year. However, he’s already donned it. Could his plans change? What do you think?
Adam Yates finished third in today’s stage and sits in second place, trailing just 4 seconds behind Alaphilippe. There are a couple more mountainous stages ahead before the pros reach the Pyrenees. It is more than possible that Yates will reach them wearing the leader’s jersey.
Meanwhile, Peter Sagan used one of his signature moves to climb up the ladder in the points competition. He joined a breakaway and claimed 17 points at the intermediate sprint. However, Matteo Trentin was there as well and claimed 20. It won’t be easy this year for the Slovak.
