Froome Tells Teammates He’s Staying at Ineos for the Tour and Other News from the World of Cycling

By Monica Buck

Another Monday is here and our news from the world of cycling with it. So, what did you miss?

Chris Froome says he’s staying

According to Dylan Van Baarle, Chris Froome is staying at Ineos and will ride the Tour with the British outfit. Speaking to Dutch newspaper AD, Van Baarle revealed that his teammate didn’t want to terminate the contract prematurely. However, he didn’t say anything about his plans for the 2021 season.

“Of course we’ve talked about it, because it’s in the news all the time. But, as far as I know, he’s staying and wants to ride the Tour with Ineos,” Van Baarle said. “In the end, I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes with him either, but that’s what he says to us, so I assume he’ll be there.”

Chris Froome joined Team Sky, now Team Ineos, back in 2010, when it was launched. He’s won seven Grand Tours in its jersey. However, he suffered a serious injury last year and his teammate Egan Bernal went on to win the 2019 Tour. Earlier this month, Cyclingnews revealed the possibility of Froome’s mid-season team change, which would help him avoid the leadership battle with Egan Bernal and Geraint Thomas.

Will he be able to come out the strongest? What do you think? Let us know.
