Jenny won the under-23 world title and gold at the Olympic Games Rio de Janeiro in 2016. At just 22 years old, she was at the height of her powers as the fastest-rising talent of mountain biking and nothing seemed to stand in her way. Then 2017 came and Rissveds broke her contract with former team Scott-SRAM and practically disappeared from the sport. She then made an impressive comeback on the cycling scene with a victory at the 2019 MTB World Cup in Lenzerheide after a two-year absence from the sport she took to focus on her mental health. She cited an eating disorder, competitive stress and bouts of a deep depression following a disagreement with the Swedish Cycling Federation combined with the loss of her two grandfathers. The Olympic champion returned to competition in spring 2019 with her very own outfit Team 31, supported by Specialized, Shimano and Thule, named after the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights article 31 that promotes child rights.
She’s been very open about her mental health struggles and the battle with one’s greatest critic: oneself. Jenny’s an inspiration to all with her unwavering belief in a simple claim: “Never give up. Never.”
