Chris Froome Could Change Teams and Other News from the World of Cycling

By Monica Buck

Another Monday is here and our news from the world of cycling with it. So, what did you miss?

Froome’s mid-season transfer?

There are more and more rumours about four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome moving this summer. He says he is back to his best form after last year’s horror crash at the Critérium du Dauphiné. And he wants that record-equalling fifth Tour title. However, things aren’t that simple. In 2018, Geraint Thomas won while Froome had to watch. Then it was Egan Bernal who claimed the glory. Team Ineos’ leadership for the Tour is still undecided and Egan Bernal declared that he would not sacrifice his chances for others.

“Following my crash last year and subsequent recovery I am extremely confident that I can return to Tour winning form. Which team that will be with beyond 2020, I don’t know yet,” Froome told Cyclingnews. “I have no intention of retiring any time soon. If anything, the crash has given me a renewed focus and drive. I have worked harder than I ever have to get back to where I am. I won’t let that be for nothing.”

In reaction to the Cyclingnews story, Team Ineos quickly denied that Froome would leave during the 2020 season. However, several teams are seen as possible suitors.

Movistar, Bahrain McLaren, UAE Team Emirates Israel Start-Up Nation and NTT Pro Cycling are being mentioned for various reasons.

Would you want to see Froome race against Team Ineos? What jersey would you like to see him in?
