World-Class Cycling Route for Manchester and Other Cool News from the World of Cycling

By Monica Buck

Another Monday is here and our news from the world of cycling with it! So, what did you miss?

UK stepping up its game

A new ambitious project worth £13.4 million has been unveiled in England. The proposed cycling and walking route is supposed to connect Manchester with Chorlton. Featuring Dutch-style segregated lanes for both cyclists and walkers, it is probably the best cycling project in the UK right now. The three-mile route was designed with help from former Olympian Chris Boardman.

“We want to make cycling and walking the natural choice for short journeys, giving people the freedom not to have to drive,” Boardman said. “That means creating world-class streets where people want to socialise and relax. Some of the junction designs proposed are the most advanced yet that we’ve seen in the UK.”

The local council is waiting for the public’s opinion on the plan, so no date of completion has been given yet. The project is part of a new £1.5billion cycling and walking plan for a new, cycling-friendly Manchester.
