Peter Sagan Takes Yellow and Other Cool News from the World of Cycling

By Monica Buck

Another Monday is here and our news from the world of cycling with it. So, what did you miss?

Sagan dons the yellow jersey

The world champion took the lead in the GC after winning the sprint from a reduced bunch yesterday. Stage one winner Fernando Gaviria was unfortunately caught up in a crash 2 km from the finish line. Still there were the likes of Arnaud Démare (Groupama-FDJ), Alexander Kristoff (UAE Team Emirates) and André Greipel (Lotto-Soudal) to compete with Sagan. It was Démare who launched first, but the Slovak followed and overtook him in the last 50 metres. Colbrelli seemed to be gaining on Sagan, but the finish line was just too close for him to beat the rainbow jersey. The GC contenders finished safely together in a group. However, all eyes will be on them tomorrow in the crucial team time trial.
