Valgren Wins Amstel Gold Race and Other Cool News from the World of Cycling

By Monica Buck

The Astana rider already finished second at the 2016 Amstel Gold Race and didn’t want to repeat the experience this year. He made the key move with just over 2km left, breaking away from the leading group of eight riders despite the fact that it included the likes of Peter Sagan, Alejandro Valverde, and Julian Alaphilippe. Roman Kreuziger was the only one to jump over to join him but he didn’t seem to be particularly confident in the final sprint. Valgren made his move in the final metres, and the Czech rider was simply unable to respond.
