The South African finally triumphs
It took more than three years of waiting before Daryl Impey could raise another trophy above his head. And it was a very narrow win as well. He finished on the same time as Richie Porte, and his triumph comes courtesy of three second-place finishes in the race. It’s his first GC win since the Tour of Alberta in 2014. Richie Porte didn’t seem all too bothered with the results, though.
“I have a fantastic bunch of people around me, from my team to wife and family. It has been a tough time, it was a nasty crash, it knocked me around, but I think I can have maybe the best season of my career, and I’m motivated for that,” Porte told the reporters.
André Greipel had a great start to the season as well, taking two stage wins. It was Peter Sagan with one stage win, however, who made the news again. He helped to pack away flamme rouge, claiming he finally had a real job to do. And the fans loved it. You can watch the funny video below.
