Shut Up Legs! Jens Voigt to Run 7 Marathons in 7 Days

By Monica Buck

The beloved former German pro is trying to raise funds for an Australian cancer charity called Tour de Cure. Last year he raised over €25,000 for the organization by “Everesting” Berlin. That meant riding up and down a certain climb in the German capital 100 times to gain the altitude of Mount Everest. Now he seeks to do seven marathons in seven days.

“After my Everest Challenge a while back, which was already a special achievement, this is something I want to do for two reasons. First and foremost, I was overwhelmed by the positive feedback for my Everest Challenge in the beginning of the year. I want to raise as much awareness and funds as possible for the fight against cancer. The second reason is that I love to challenge my limits. I love to go above and beyond, trying to see what my body and mind are capable of. And what’s a better way to do this than running seven marathons within a week? It will possibly be the challenge that embodies my motto ‘shut up legs’ like nothing else I’ve ever done before. Of course, people might think I’m crazy to do something like this. But hey, I never said I wasn‘t,” Voigt said in a statement.

Jens Voigt celebrates on the podium as he became the overall leader after the the sixth stage at the Tour de Pologne cycling race, in Zakopane, Poland, 19 September 2008.

The event is called Jensie’s Marathon Madness and will take place between 2nd and 8th January 2018 on the 7.1km-long Grunewald course. Anyone who cares to join Jens is more than welcomed to do so. You can run a round of 7 km, 21 km or the whole marathon – on any of the 7 days.
