Big win for Dumoulin
The Dutchman did great in yesterday’s time trial, climbing from fourth to first place in the GC, beating Nairo Quintana by 31 seconds. Considering the fact that he started the day trailing 53 seconds to the Colombian pro, gaining such a huge amount of time in just 29.3km is really impressive. The other two contenders fared better than Nairo, but even Nibali and Pinot were no match for Dumoulin.
“No, I never expected to win the Giro. Maybe somewhere in the future, maybe one time with a lot of luck or whatever, but not this year. I would have been very happy with a place in the top ten. I still made history by shi*ting in the woods but now in a positive way. I will go down in the history books for winning the Giro after pooping in the woods, it’s quite amazing,” Dumoulin said while enjoying a slice of pizza from a nearby shop.
