The Hell of the North is Over and Other Cool News From the World of Cycling

By Martin Mrazek

Another Monday is here and our news from the world of cycling with it! So, what did you miss?

Van Avermaet takes Paris-Roubaix

What a win for the Belgian Olympic road race champion! Greg Van Avermaet rode the Roubaix velodrome with Zdeněk Štybar (Quick-Step) and Sebastian Langeveld (Cannondale). Štybar tried to attack in the final lap, and it looked like he was going to win, but Avermaet overtook him in the last couple of metres.

The BMC Racing pro excels in what has been a great season so far. He won at Ghent-Wevelgem, E3 Harelbeke, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and now at Paris-Roubaix. Naturally that was a disappointment for Tom Boonen, who didn’t get his fifth Paris-Roubaix win and a dream end to his career.

World champion Peter Sagan suffered bad luck again, having two mechanical problems, and despite his good form, he couldn’t catch up with the leading group.

Post-race faces

The last wet Paris-Roubaix was in 2002, but that doesn’t mean the post-race photos of riders are boring. Just look at these faces. No wonder it’s called Hell of the North.

Urban wearable assistant for cyclists

When riding at night, you always want to be as visible as possible. And that’s where Tuibo has got you covered. It’s got a T-shaped flexible LED display that lights up your back to help you be seen from really far away. Plus the Tuibo’s turn signals, right, left and flashing, communicate your upcoming actions to drivers and pedestrians. And showing what you are going to do next is really the best way to prevent accidents.

Unfortunately, you cannot buy Tuibo just yet. It has only recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to find its supporters. If you’re interested, you can find out more about the product HERE.
