Gallery: You Can Try Hard but You’ll Never Be as Cool as NYC Cyclists

New York is the so called “melting pot” of the USA – a term that projects itself into all layers of human existence here, be it culture, religion, cuisine, and of course, style. It wouldn’t be New Yorkers if they wouldn’t flaunt their impeccable and sometimes peculiar taste in everything even when on the bike. Photographer Sam Polcer decided that the NYC cycling motley crew deserves its own photo series called Preferred Style, which was recently published by Prestel publishing as a book titled New York Bike Style.
“I fell in love with biking here in New York City,” explains Polcer. “Once you realize what biking in New York can do for you as a New Yorker – being able to explore places that you wouldn’t normally explore, get places faster, see neighbourhoods better, meet cool people, and do that without having to struggle on the subway, or taking buses, or taking cabs, or getting stuck in traffic – It opens the city to you in a way that nothing else can,” Polcer pretty much sums up all the benefits of urban cycling.
