Did you know that ‘you are what you eat’ translates equally to ‘you ride how you eat’? Imagine your body as a car. Empty tank won’t get you very far. You need to fuel up.
Forget about last minute shopping at the gas station. Start with a solid breakfast. Munch on cereal or even pasta. Stock up on bananas and energy boosting foods. Give yourself at least one hour to digest before you step into the pedals.
If you plan to challenge yourself and ride for more than 90 minutes bring a snack, but don’t overdo it with energy drinks and bars as too much carbs will leave you nauseated. It is no shame to eat, it would be a shame to faint or take the ambulance home because you’ve reached zero energy level.
The same applies to drinking. We are predominantly made of water and we need to constantly supply it to our body to keep it fresh. Drink before you are thirsty. Once off the saddle, grab a beer. One will do, just in case you were wondering.
