Cancellara leaves Giro due to illness
The Swiss time trial star faced a stomach flu and the recovery took longer than Cancellara expected. He finished fourth behind the stage winner Primož Roglič from Etixx-QuickStep and decided to leave the race and focus on the rest of the season.
“In the end, I paid a bit for trying to gain on the rider I saw in front of me. I went a bit over the edge and then I paid the price, but in the end, I could manage in the downhill to recover a bit. That’s how it is. I knew it was my last stage, so I did it all-in,” said Cancellara.
The dirt climb
Cancellara might be out, but the glory of Giro d’Italia lives on. Just look at this picture. Our favourite photographer Jered Gruber summed up the atmosphere perfectly.

Peter Sagan triumphs in California
Peto returned to Amgen Tour of California after last year’s overall win and took the opening stage on Sunday. It was a smooth sailing for Sagan with getting an early lead and then securing the 14th ToC stage victory of his career.
