The Island of Kodiak is best known for its biggest residents, but it’s definitely not all about bears. It has some pretty cool trails as well, and as a cycling enthusiast you owe it to yourself to bike through Alaska at least once in your lifetime.
Lush vegetation, dramatic cliff sides, amazing views. Kodiak has it all. You can try the Russian Ridge. At 7.9 miles long, the ride is popular among all residents and can be ridden year-round. A little bit of hill climbing will bring you to a three-mile-long downhill.
If you like beautiful sceneries, you shouldn’t miss out on the opportunity to ride the East Pillar Mountain Loop. This technical single track will reward you with amazing views. It is for the more experienced riders, though.
Anyway, Kodiak has something for beginners too. The Swampy Acres trail is 4.9 miles long, easy on the beginners and it connects to the Pillar Mountain trail as well. The “bear” island seems to have something for everyone.
Plus, if you hurry up, you might be one of the few people to ever visit Kodiaq. The capital of the island changed its name today to honour the launch of a Škoda Kodiaq. The brand new SUV made by Škoda is just the kind of vehicle for such an adventurous cycling trip! Find out more about it HERE.
