Sad news seems to keep on coming this time of the year. Just a few days after the unfortunate death of Kelly Mcgarry (read more about it HERE), the world of cycling has lost another legend. Mirra supposedly shot himself in his truck nearby Rose High School in Greenville, North Carolina.
Dave became one of the most successful X-Games athletes ever, winning 24 medals thanks to his incredible talent.
„We mourn the loss today of a great friend and wonderful human being who touched the lives of so many around the world with his gift. He called Greenville, North Carolina, home and was as humble a guy talking with kids on a street corner about bikes as he was in his element on the world stage. A young life with so much to offer was taken too soon,“ said City of Greenville Mayor Allen Thomas.
Dave leaves behind his wife Lauren and two daughters, Mackenzie and Madison. Shortly before his death, he posted two Instagram updates. One of them paid tribute to his wife. „My rock! Thank god,“ wrote Mirra alongside a portrait of him and Lauren. The other image, as you can see below, shows the legend riding a BMX bike at Rose High School in Greenville. Mirra’s family said they’d appreciate privacy during this very difficult time.
We’ll never forget you Dave.
